The concept – Socialist Feminism
Socialist feminism addresses women’s inequality in two approaches which are connecting capitalism and patriarchy and proving that patriarchy is not the sole source of oppression. Women are limited to a role in society, which is one of the factors of the oppression. During the second wave of feminism, it was a common mentality that children needed their mothers to stay at home just so that the children are properly nurtured. But after the rise of single mother and low child care support, socialist feminist really shines through where it broke the typical stereotype that people perceive. This theory really ties together with the inspiration of the 3 collections as it showcases the bad outcome of what it will happen if women start to give in to the oppression. In this case, in the beauty community. It is a misconception between the two, how can you love beauty while still being a feminist? If you love yourself, beauty is not needed. No one knew how this issue began to start but somehow it has been a thorny subject. Everywhere in the world, there will always be a standard that people want to follow, thus the beauty industries are using this to make a profit, by makeup, and others. But, being a feminist means that you can do whatever you want. Whatever you like and chose to be. Beauty or whatever else should not stop you from being a feminist. Also, that beauty demands does not define you. What society says, does not define you.
This showcase is trying to get people to understand that we all need to love and accept ourselves for what we are. You are dreaming to be beautiful as the society perceive you, just because of the beauty standards, it can lead to a phobia of fatal injury or death. And that its okay to love something or admire, but no matter how much you change your physical look, if you don’t love yourself, you will never see the beautifulness.
