Unveiling the Secrets of the SDGs: A Community Outreach
On 5 March 2025, the spirit of sustainability and collaboration came to life as students from six different programmes at Raffles University gathered to present their research and insights in a community outreach event titled “Unveiling the Secrets of the SDGs”.
Held on campus, this vibrant initiative brought together 35 students from the Diploma in Human Resource Management, Diploma in Visual Communication, Diploma in Interior Design, Diploma in Fashion Design, Diploma in Psychology, and Diploma in Digital Game Art programme—all united by a common English module.
Each student group selected a specific Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) and critically analysed two scholarly articles related to their chosen topic. Through this process, they developed key academic skills, including the ability to evaluate methodologies, uncover biases, and synthesise research findings. But they didn’t stop there.
The heart of the event was the creation of engaging infographics and handouts that made these complex issues more accessible. On the day of the event, the students proudly showcased their work to fellow students and staff, transforming academic research into visual narratives that sparked conversations around sustainability, equity, and global development.
Key Takeaways
Beyond academic enrichment, this activity also offered hands-on experience in event planning, teamwork, and public engagement. From ideation to execution, students learned how to collaborate, delegate responsibilities, and align their content with both the Sustainable Development Goals and the interests of the university community.
At Raffles University, we believe that education is not just about learning—it’s about doing. Events like “Unveiling the Secrets of the SDGs” empower students to transform classroom knowledge into meaningful action, reminding us that even small efforts can contribute to a more sustainable and informed world.
