RU APPRENTICE
The first week of October proved to be an exciting one, as our very own RU (Formerly known as RUI) students and staff finally got the chance to showcase the fruits of their hard work for the RU Apprentice Project. The RU Apprentice Project is a collaboration between the ‘Students Enhancement, Enrichment, and Development Committee’ (SEED) and Centre of Professional Development (CPD). The project aimed to combine the expertise of students from various disciplines, to come up with a practical design which would then be showcased to the public.
The first week of October proved to be an exciting one, as our very own RU students and staff finally got the chance to showcase the fruits of their hard work for the RU Apprentice Project. The RUI Apprentice Project is a collaboration between the ‘Students Enhancement, Enrichment, and Development Committee’ (SEED) and Centre of Professional Development (CPD). The project aimed to combine the expertise of students from various disciplines, to come up with a practical design which would then be showcased to the public.
The idea behind this project is that students would have first-hand experience with the process of planning, designing, developing, and implementing a business plan with limited time and materials. Project management and communication were important elements of this venture proper coordination and allocation of work were needed between team members of various study disciplines. The day started off with a lot of curious shoppers walking by the student stalls and browsing through the products. The sales started coming in when students creatively modified their marketing techniques to suit the type of products that their stall offered.
It was also an extra special day for these students as Jason Kang, the CFO & Co-Founder of ServisHero was around to give the students some feedback and pass on some entrepreneurial knowledge for them to apply in the future. One of the notable things that Jason told the students was, “The design of a product is important, but design coupled with business is powerful. Think about how you are packaging your product physically and also in the minds of your customers.” His words ring true for Raffles University Iskandar, as we aim to teach our students how to think outside of the box and apply what they have learnt in the classroom, in the business world.
