Reflecting on the KIWU Korea Exchange Programme
Raffles University recently had the pleasure of hosting an enriching 7-day University Advancement Camp for the Department of Advertising Design students from Kyung-in Women’s University, Korea. From July 1st to 6th, 2024, a group of 10 talented students and one lecturer joined us for an exchange student programme to enhanced their English skills and provided valuable industry insights through short-term international exposure.
A SERIES OF FUN AND LEARN ACTIVITIES
ICE-BREAKING WITH RU COGITO ERGO CLUB
The camp started with ice-breaking activities to welcome students from KIWU and familiarise them with the Malaysian environment. Led by Ms Thivya A/P Asokan and Ms Wong Shir Ling, the 10 students from Raffles University Cogito Ergo Club introduced Malaysian culture through activities and games to the participants from KIWU.
72 HOURS ADVERTISING CHALLENGE WITH GENERATIVE AI
Participants of KIWU were invited to join Raffles University students in a real-case business campaign design, in collaboration with Huawei. In the 72-hour challenge, all students worked together to brainstorm a product for Huawei and develop a suitable campaign targeting the younger generation. The challenge fostered a spirit of collaboration, encouraging students to work with international peers and integrate new ideas from the Korean students.
Additionally, all students attended a Generative AI workshop led by Mr Ellem Ooi. At Raffles University, we utilise Generative AI to support students throughout the design process. The workshop guided students on how to use Generative AI effectively and ethically.
The final campaigns from the 72-hour challenge will then be presented by the students to the company on a later date.
EXPLORE THE JOHOR ATTRACTIONS

Company Visits and Industry Insights
Participants visited two local companies, 99 Studio and Refine Printing, to gain industry insights into Malaysian businesses.
99 Studio is a well-known local photography studio. Students were exposed to the shooting venues, equipment, and props of the photography studio. The staff of 99 Studio welcomed the students with warm hospitality and answered their questions regarding photography.
Participants also visited Refine Printing to understand the actual operations of a printing company and the various kinds of printing products. This visit was particularly beneficial for the participants, as understanding the demands of the market and working closely with a printing company is crucial for advertising designers to achieve better product outcomes.
