MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT &
COUNSELLING SERVICE

The Counselling Service helps students address their personal or emotional problems that hinder them from having a positive experience at the University and impede their academic and personal development. It is a free service, and cases are treated as strictly confidential. The counsellor’s role is to offer support and understanding, and to listen and respond in a non-judgmental way.

Personal Development and Interpersonal relationships

Dealing with university stress, family and/or relationship issues.
– Adjusting to a new culture, resolving dilemmas, making difficult decisions or choices.

Mental Health Support

– Depression
– Anxiety Disorders
– Self-Harm and Suicidal Thoughts

Appointments with the Counselling Service can be scheduled via SAS. Once an appointment is made, the counselling session will be conducted by a University Counsellor.

MR ONG CHIAN SHEN

As a licensed and registered counsellor, Mr Ong has 3 years experiences working in various counselling settings, including universities, schools, NGOs, and clinics. These diverse environments have provided me with opportunities to assist individuals facing a wide range of challenges.

Mr Ong’s specialised area of interest lies in helping individuals navigate life’s struggles, which may encompass academic, career, relationship, grief, emotional, self-exploration, inner child processes, and other mental health-related issues.

He believe that every individual possesses the ability to heal themselves with the support they need. However, the complexities of the world can often leave us lost in thought, burdened by heavy emotions, and haunted by traumatic experiences.

During these challenging times, his role is to create a safe and non-judgmental space where you can uncover your true self, subconscious with inner strengths, and consider the various options available to help you lead a more fulfilling and meaningful life.

Academic Support Services
for Students with Learning Disabilities

1. Regularly reviewing their learning progress and updating learning plans accordingly to ensure they remain relevant

2. Providing accommodations for students with learning disabilities, such as extended time on assignments, or alternative formats for course materials (i.e., videos).

3. Monitoring the effectiveness of accommodations and make adjustments as needed to best support each student’s learning experience.

4.Providing workshops and resources on study skills, time management, and organization specifically designed for students with learning disabilities.

5.Peer support networks where students with learning disabilities can connect with and learn from fellow students facing similar challenges.

6. Access to assistive technology tools, such as text-to-speech software, and speech recognition programs, to help students with learning disabilities better engage with course content.

7. Organizing campus-wide awareness campaigns and events to educate the university community about learning disabilities and the importance of inclusive education.

HEALTH & SAFETY

Raffles University’s Health and Safety Committee, consisting of qualified members from diverse university departments, takes a proactive stance in addressing and managing emergency situations. Their primary mission is to ensure the safety and well-being of our university community. This includes developing and executing emergency response plans, conducting routine drills, overseeing safety protocol adherence, and promptly addressing unexpected crises.

HEALTH & SAFETY PROCEDURE
  • Report any incidents, accidents, and hazards to SAS
  • Sick Bay is available at East Wing (Beside washroom)
Fire Evacuation Procedure
  • On hearing the Fire Alarm or when instructed to evacuate, leave the building, USE THE STAIRS by the nearest exit, close all door and windows as you leave and proceed immediately to  the ASSEMBLY POINT outside the building and wait for further  instructions.
  • DO NOT use the lift.​​
  • Alert others in the vicinity & SAS.
