Residential Interior Design Site Visit

Interior Design Students Gain Practical Experience Through Residential Site Visit

On 9 October 2025, students from the Diploma in Interior Design at Raffles University participated in a residential site visit as part of their DID21045 Interior Design Studio 2 (Residential) module.

The visit formed part of the students’ module requirements and provided an opportunity to conduct on-site research into design aspects relevant to their studio project.

Taking Interior Design Learning into a Real Space

During the site visit, students carried out research to support the development of their Interior Design assignment.

As part of the study, students conducted measured drawings, taking measurements of dimensions and spaces throughout the premises. This provided them with site information that could be applied to the development of their residential design project.

The experience allowed students to connect their studio learning with an actual residential environment and undertake the practical research required for their assignment.

From Site Research to Design Development

The site visit formed an important part of the students’ design process, providing information and observations relevant to the development of their project.

Following the visit, students would continue developing their designs within the Interior Design Studio 2 (Residential) module, applying their site research and measured drawings to their individual studio projects.

The final designs were planned for review at the Raffles University campus towards the end of November.

Learning Beyond the Design Studio

The residential site visit provided Diploma in Interior Design students with an opportunity to experience an important aspect of the design process beyond the university studio.

Through site research and measured drawings, students were able to work with an existing space and gather relevant information to support their design development.

The activity reflects a practical approach to Interior Design education, connecting students’ studio projects with on-site research and real spatial conditions.
