Field Trip to Kuala Lumpur: A Transformative Experience for Fashion Design Students

To provide Bachelor of Fashion Design (Honours) and Diploma in Fashion Design students with a comprehensive and practical understanding of the fashion industry, Raffles University organised an enlightening field trip to Kuala Lumpur. The itinerary was crafted to include visits to the Syomirizwa Gupta Fashion Studio, the Raffles College of Higher Education campus, Kuala Lumpur and the TRX Mall. This experience aimed to enhance students’ knowledge and skills in garment and composition and offer insights into the operational and managerial aspects of the fashion business.

After a morning of inspiration at the studio, the students proceeded to the Raffles Kuala Lumpur campus. Ms. Anna, a faculty member at RKL, led an extensive tour of the campus, showcasing the state-of-the-art student workspace, sewing rooms, and production rooms.

The final leg of the trip took place at the TRX Mall, a hub of retail activity in Kuala Lumpur. Raffles fashion designers had the opportunity to collect resources for their assignments. They also engaged in observational studies of various retail businesses within the mall, gaining insights into different retail market levels and strategies employed by successful fashion retailers. The visit to TRX Mall provided a practical perspective on how theoretical knowledge of retail management and marketing is applied in real-world settings.

This field trip to Kuala Lumpur was a transformative experience for Bachelor of Fashion Design (Honours) and Diploma in Fashion Design students, offering a view of the fashion industry. From the creative processes and business operations observed at Syomirizwa Gupta Fashion Studio to the resourceful environment at Raffles Kuala Lumpur and the practical retail insights gained at TRX Mall.
