Dream Home Design Challenge: Raffles University and Eco World Collaborate
Raffles University’s Bachelor of Interior Design (Honours) and Diploma in Interior Design held a Design Challenge, organised in partnership with Eco World, brought together students and industry professionals. The competition aimed to create participants’ dream homes, designed for modern living and reflecting their personal style and lifestyle.
The project briefing took place on March 28, where Raffles students received guidelines and learned how to register. Starting from April 1, participants from interior design course had the choice to join individually or in groups of two, encouraging different perspectives and teamwork. This flexibility made way for an exciting journey to design their dream homes.
After months of careful planning, research, and work, Raffles students submitted their final designs to their lecturers on July 21. As the deadline approached, excitement grew as each Raffles Interior Designers prepared to present their unique creations to the judges.
The judging panel included experts in the field: Dr Mohd Khedzir Khamis and Ms Aleksandra Venkova, along with external judge Ms Anna Zahilah, who brought industry experience. Participants also received a subsidy of RM300 per submission to cover printing and material costs, with reimbursement requiring proof of expenses. This collaboration showed the institution’s dedication to nurturing creativity and innovation, while preparing students for real-world challenges in interior design.
On July 28, the participants had the opportunity to showcase their design concepts and explain their choices during the presentation and award session. The panel of judges, including Dr Mohd Khedzir Khamis, Ms Aleksandra Venkova, and Ms Anna Zahilah, carefully evaluated each presentation.
Raffles Interior Design’s collaboration with Eco World through the Design Challenge provided a platform for aspiring interior designers to bring their dream home concepts to life. From the initial project briefing to the final presentation, the journey was filled with enthusiasm, creativity, and a drive for excellence. The event not only challenged the students but also offered valuable feedback from industry experts.
By fostering such collaborations, Raffles Interior Design demonstrated its commitment to preparing students for the real-world challenges of the industry. The Design Challenge not only highlighted the participants’ talent and potential but also showcased the institution’s dedication to nurturing creativity and promoting innovation.
