COMMUNITY SERVICE

Community Service: designing posters & banners for weekly street events at Jalan Tan Hiok Nee.

[October 2022]

Raffles Designers: LEK Yu Xuan [Bachelor of Multimedia Design (Honours)],  HO Jia Qi and HENG Wei [Bachelor of Graphic Design (Honours)] participated in a meaningful community service project with Johor Bahru Chinese Heritage Museum (新山华族历史文物馆).

In this project, the designers are assisting the Johor Bahru Chinese Heritage Museum in designing posters and banners for the weekly street event at Jalan Tan Niok Nee – the famous attraction in Johor Bahru. The weekly street events include the Chinese tea & Calligraphy Event (茶香墨韵汇老街 ) that was held on 8 Oct 2022, vintage car exhibition (古董车展览)that was held on 22nd Oct, and the Second-hand goods market (二手怀旧市集 )  that will be held on 29 Oct 2022.

Problem Solving

Throughout the communication with the Johor Bahru Chinese Heritage Museum, the designers identified 2 major problems faced by the organiser.

  1. To attract more visitors to the events
  2. To attract the younger generation to the cultural event

Hence, the involvement of Raffles Designers aimed to attract more visitors and the younger generation to involve in cultural events through the modern design of the banners & posters. The designers also attended the street event as a volunteer to provide assistance in the event including audio control and photography service.
