SPSS Workshop

Raffles University recently hosted an engaging and informative workshop on the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). The event drew a diverse audience, ranging from students and researchers to professionals in various fields. Led by speaker Dr. Fong Sook Fun, Senior Lecturer of Business, the workshop aimed to equip students with the essential skills and knowledge to leverage SPSS for effective data analysis. The aim was to equip Raffles business students with the knowledge and skills to harness the power of SPSS for effective data analysis.

The workshop commenced with an introduction to SPSS, providing an overview of its capabilities and applications. Dr Fong guided participants through the software’s interface, they delved into various statistical techniques and demonstrated how SPSS can be utilised to analyse complex datasets, perform descriptive statistics, and conduct hypothesis testing.  

As the workshop progressed, our instructors introduced more advanced techniques, including regression analysis, factor analysis, and data visualisation. Raffles students emphasised the importance of understanding the underlying assumptions of each statistical test and interpreting the results accurately. Raffles students were encouraged to ask questions and engage in discussions, fostering a collaborative learning environment.

To further demonstrate the relevance of SPSS, real-world case studies were presented. Attendees were able to witness how SPSS has been instrumental in solving research questions and driving data-informed decision-making across various domains. From psychology and sociology to marketing and healthcare, SPSS has proven to be a versatile tool with broad applications.
