VIRTUAL UNIVERSITY
RAFFLES UNIVERSITY IS OPERATING AS A VIRTUAL UNIVERSITY DURING MCO.
As Movement Control Order was announced by the Prime Minister of Malaysia on 16 March 2020, all higher education institutions in Malaysia were required to temporarily close down their physical building.
As a response to MCO, Raffles University moved all the teaching and learning to the digital platform and operates as a virtual university. In this way, it meant that the leftover weeks of the semesters will be conducted through virtual classroom via varieties of digital platform such as Zoom, Whatsapp, Team etc. Besides, RU also fully utilised its current Learning Management System (LMS) as the channel to provide lesson information, quizzes, assessment and co-creation activities.
A big milestone of RU was to move the examination to a virtual platform. Our aim was that we do not want to delay the student’s study progress, we want to enable them to complete their studies on time. We also moved the students’ presentation & artwork showcases a session to a virtual platform. We managed to invite the industry partner to join the session via a virtual platform.
Covid-19 might be a crisis to the world but it might be a turning point of us. It actually enables RU – including management, lecturers and students – to step out the comfort zone to cultivate and utilise the new technology.
It might be tough to adapt to a new model of learning at the beginning but we did it, Raffles students did it and so do you.
