Silk Road Symbiosis: Raffles University Hosts the 3rd Asian City Culture International Poster Exhibition

The Faculty of Arts & Design (ADE) at Raffles University was filled with creative energy as it officially opened the 3rd Asian City Culture International Poster Exhibition & Belt and Road International Urban Intangible Cultural Heritage Digital Art & Design Exhibition. Running from 12 to 13 October 2026 at the ADE Open Studio (Level 2), the two-day event celebrates the dynamic intersection of heritage, visual storytelling, and international design practice. Selected as an official partner university in Malaysia alongside UCSI University for the 2026 Beijing Design Week Design Journey Programme, Raffles University serves as a key bridge for regional academic and artistic exchange.

Global Design, Local Impact

This year’s overarching theme, “Silk Road Symbiosis · Renewing Intangible Cultural Heritage,” focuses on the modern reinterpretation of Asian urban culture, traditional crafts, and cross-border digital art. Out of a remarkable 5,236 global entries, only 240 outstanding works were selected for display. The exhibition showcases visionary talents from 16 countries and regions—including Malaysia, Singapore, China, Thailand, Indonesia, India, the UK, and the USA—spotlighting three major creative themes:

Visual Design of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Belt and Road International Cities
Urban Culture of Northeast China
Celebrating the 65th Anniversary of China–Laos Diplomatic Relations

Academic Insights & International Exchange

The opening ceremony on 12 October welcomed visiting scholars, creative practitioners, and faculty members for a day of networking and intellectual exchange. A highlight of the session was a special lecture delivered by Associate Professor Miao Ping from the School of Humanities, Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts (Dalian). Titled “Narrative and Expression in the Asian City Culture and Creative Competition,” the session offered valuable insights into international competition standards, visual communication strategy, and narrative-driven design. The event also welcomed guest scholar Qiaofang, Deputy Director of Photography Teaching and Research at Heilongjiang East University and PhD Candidate at Lincoln University Malaysia.

Looking Ahead

By bringing world-class submissions and international expertise directly to campus, the ADE Open Studio continues to offer students and faculty valuable exposure to global design trends and heritage preservation. We extend our sincere gratitude to our international guest speakers, organisers, and all visitors who joined us to celebrate this milestone event.
