GENERATIVE AI IN TEACHING & LEARNING: A PRACTICAL WORKSHOP

Raffles University’s academic team organised a Continuous Professional Development Workshop with the topic of  Generative AI in Teaching & Learning. This workshop is designed to equip lecturers with the knowledge and skills to effectively leverage generative AI technologies in teaching and learning environments. The workshop is attended by the academic teams of Raffles University and Raffles College of Higher Education.

The facilitators of the workshop are

Assoc. Prof. Dr Tan Wee Chuen, Vice President
Mr Ellem Ooi Kok Hor, Head of CiTL

Workshop Objectives:

  • Introduce various generative AI tools and their relevance in teaching and learning.
  • Provide practical demonstrations and activities using various generative AI tools.
  • Explore strategies for integrating generative AI into teaching and learning, and assessment preparation.
  • Promote collaboration among lecturers interested in implementing generative AI in their teaching practice.
  • Propose a use case for implementing generative AI in teaching and learning.

In the workshop, lecturers explored hands-on various generative AI software spanning audio, text, and video fields. Through this experience, they aimed to discern the products of generative AI and explore their applications in teaching and learning. This enabled lecturers to learn from two perspectives: understanding how students might utilise generative AI tools in their learning process and identifying potential limitations inherent in each AI application.

By engaging with these tools firsthand, lecturers gained insights into integrating generative AI effectively into educational contexts while being mindful of its constraints.
