RU Talent Powers ‘The Butterfly Lovers’ Success

Raffles University reaffirmed its support for the creative arts community last weekend as a key sponsor of “The Butterfly Lovers,” a cross-disciplinary performing arts showcase held at the Permaisuri Sofiah Opera House. The event, which took place on 13 December 2025, was a major success, attracting over 1,000 attendees and VIP guests. However, this partnership was about much more than just a logo on a backdrop.
Going Beyond Sponsorship This collaboration highlighted RU’s commitment to practical, industry-relevant education. By integrating our students into the production pipeline, we ensured they gained real-world experience on a professional stage.

Our academic teams played integral roles in bringing the production to life:

Fashion Design: The department provided extensive wardrobe support, creating custom designs for lead performers and executing over 80 garment modifications.
Multimedia Design: Our digital team curated the show’s immersive visual effects, using LED technology to enhance the storytelling.

Ready for the Industry

From costume fabrication to digital stagecraft, this partnership allowed our students to apply their classroom skills in a high-stakes environment. It demonstrated to the public that RU graduates are fully ready for the creative industry.

Following the event’s acclaim from the Johor Bahru creative community, AsiaCity has announced plans to restage the production in 2026, continuing the momentum of this successful partnership.
