Angpao Origami Horse

莱佛士大学 is proud to have collaborated with Sunway Big Box Retail Park in a meaningful celebration of creativity and cultural heritage this Chinese New Year.

This collaboration exemplifies how education and industry can come together to produce impactful, large-scale public art that resonates with the wider community.

Our Faculty of Arts & Design played a key role in bringing this festive vision to life through the creation of the largest Angpao origami horse replica, an extraordinary installation that has now been officially recorded in the Malaysia Book of Records. This remarkable achievement reflects not only artistic excellence, but also the spirit of unity and innovation that defines our creative community.

Complementing this installation, students from the Digital Applied Illustration module contributed their creative expertise by hand-painting a life-sized horse statue for the mall’s festive displays. This artwork beautifully blended traditional symbolism with contemporary design techniques, showcasing vibrant colors, intricate patterns, and the technical mastery developed through industry-focused learning. The project provided students with a hands-on, real-world experience, allowing them to translate classroom knowledge into a tangible cultural expression that engaged the public and enhanced the celebratory atmosphere.

This collaboration highlights the transformative potential of academia-industry partnerships. By offering students real-world platforms to apply their skills, Raffles University empowers emerging artists and designers to innovate, collaborate, and contribute meaningfully to community events.
