Fashion Design Seminar X "Reborn Before" Competition

莱佛士大学 recently hosted a 服装设计 Seminar, bringing together students and industry professionals for a day of insightful discussions on the evolving fashion landscape. The event focused on the importance of education in fashion, real-world design practices, and the role of sustainability in the future of industry.

The seminar kicked off with a keynote session on “The Importance of Education in 服装设计“, emphasising how a strong academic foundation can help aspiring designers thrive in an ever-changing industry.

Following this, 莱佛士大学 Fashion Design alumni, Nicole Soo, shared her post-graduation journey from intern to full-time designer at Fiffy Sdn. Bhd., offering students a first-hand look at the opportunities and challenges of entering the fashion world.

One of the standout topics of the day was sustainability. Pro Uniform & Gift Sdn. Bhd. Director, Mr Keane Lee, introduced the concept of fabric recycling in corporate uniforms, highlighting how fashion businesses can contribute to environmental protection. His discussion underscored the growing importance of sustainability in the fashion industry, inspiring students to think creatively about eco-friendly practices.

Another key segment of the seminar was the “Reborn Before” Project presentation, where students showcased their innovative designs centered around upcycled materials. This project emphasised SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, encouraging students to rethink waste and turn discarded materials into sustainable fashion creations. Judged by Mr Keane Lee and his team from Pro Uniform & Gift Sdn. Bhd., alongside Ms Sahar, a Fashion Design Lecturer at Raffles University, the competition recognised the most creative and sustainable designs, further highlighting the importance of integrating sustainability into fashion.

The showcased designs not only demonstrated artistic creativity. By repurposing materials, students reduced waste, showing that fashion can contribute to a more sustainable future. The “Reborn Before” Project allowed students to explore the intersection of innovation and sustainability, learning how these concepts can influence their work in the fashion industry.

This 服装设计 seminar provided a valuable platform for students to gain practical knowledge and skills that will help shape their future in fashion design. With guidance from industry experts, students learned how sustainable practices can be incorporated into design processes, aligning with global sustainability goals. Raffles University continues to support and connect students with the fashion industry, ensuring they are well-prepared for the challenges and innovations, as collaboration with industry experts plays a crucial role in creating sustainable solutions.

The winners of the “Reborn Before” Project were:

Bobo Chang, 服装设计学士(荣誉学位)
Ivy Loh Hui Xin, 服装设计大专文凭
Matthew Zachary, 服装设计学士(荣誉学位)

These students exemplified the innovative spirit necessary to drive the fashion industry toward a more sustainable and environmentally conscious future, reinforcing Raffles University ’s commitment to sustainability and the Sustainable Development Goals.
