On 3 June 2026, Raffles University Medini Campus hosted a design sharing session titled “Past, Present, Future” featuring Jay Lim and Vivian Toh, the visionary founders of CUTOUT Magazine, TSUBAKI Studio, and HASURISO. The event brought together students, faculty, and design enthusiasts for an honest, insightful conversation about creativity, uncertainty, and professional growth.

Navigating the Creative Landscape

Centered on the theme Past, Present, Future, Jay and Vivian explored the evolving journey of design across time:

The Past: How cultural roots and foundational experiences shape a designer’s creative identity.

The Present: How designers respond to changing visual cultures, client expectations, and current industry practices.

The Future: How emerging creative landscapes open new directions for design thinking, collaboration, and innovation.

Stories of Endurance and Realities Behind the Craft

Beyond professional insights, the founders shared the personal story behind their career—from building a design magazine and studio from almost nothing, to navigating moments of pause, uncertainty, and industry challenges. They reminded participants that a creative path is rarely linear, and that setbacks are often where values, endurance, and renewed purpose are formed.
