Zine Voyages: Johor Bahru Roaming Through Pages Exhibition

Raffles University recently hosted a Zine Exhibition from 18th to 21st March, showcasing the creative talents of its Bachelor of Graphic Design (Honours) and Bachelor of Multimedia Design (Honours) students. The exhibition, titled “Zine Voyages: JB Roaming Through Pages,” provided a platform for these students to express their unique perspectives and creative ideas through a diverse range of zines.

A zine, short for “fanzine,” is a small, self-published magazine typically produced by one person or a small group, focusing on a topic of interest. The primary objective of the Zine Voyages is to cultivate a design culture and inspire more people to create zines. The Zine Voyages aims to produce a visually captivating and distinctive zine that engages its audience.

Zine Voyages featured a zine event at Tekan Studio and Raffles University, showcasing a visually compelling and artistically distinctive zine centered around the theme of “Photo Walk.” This zine,  incorporates photos taken during two group outings at Jalan Tan Hiok Nee and Hutan Bandar MBJB, serving as the central visual elements. The design captured the students’ unique experiences during the photo walks, employing visually creative and intriguing layouts to convey their excitement and creativity. In line with the zine theme of exploring the diverse facets of Johor Bahru, the project has partnered with JB Heritage and Blockhole Photography Studio to offer unique opportunities to experience JB through different lenses, incorporating both photography and cultural perspectives.

Collaboration within groups will be emphasised, with the Zine Voyages Exhibition curated and hosted at both Tekan Studio and Raffles University. Tekan Studio provides a Zine Design Workshop for our Raffles designers to explore visually, They also act as a panel for the Zine Voyages Exhibition. The best exhibition design proposal will be selected by Tekan and Raffles University for the Zine Exhibition Theme and design.
