BSM FIELDTRIP

[3rd March 2022]

Raffles University Students from Bachelor of Supply Chain Management (Honours) [BSM] visited Zublin Precast Industries on 3rd March 2022 as their first field trip in 2022. The field trip is led and supervised by the Programme Director – Mr Melvin LONG, and the Manager of the 专业发展中心 （RUCPD） – Mr Suraj MARIAPPAN. The participated Raffles Students are BSM students taking the module – “Purchasing Management” and “Freight Forwarding“.

About Zublin Precast Industries

Zublin Precast Industries Sdn Bhd is located in Kota Tinggi, Malaysia. It is one of the most prominent construction organisations, if not the biggest in Europe. The company is active in all construction areas, including design, consulting and project management, and general contracting (Zublin, n.d.).

During the Field Trip

Mr Wolfgang and the Zublin team guided the students on a factory tour and demonstrated and explained the operational purchasing and shipping process on the field trip. They have showed the students how they organise purchasing, including all the materials they need to produce their precast elements and explain the delivery process of their products to clients in Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, the US and Canada.

Learning Outcome

Raffles Students from BSM were exposed to the manufacturing process of pre-fabricated pipes, their Procurement Do’s & Don’t, and Best Shipping practices. As a result, students could bridge the gap between the theoretical aspect of their learning with practical observation.

The Pandemic has given new challenges to manufacturers. RU is glad to keep up with the obstacles academically and overcome those by often collaborating with the captain of the industry to understand and learn.
