AVANT GARDE ONLINE SHOWCASE

FASHION DESIGN AVANT GARDE FB LIVE ONLINE SHOWCASE

Raffles Fashion Designer from 服装设计学士(荣誉学位) hosted an Online Fashion Showcase on Raffles University’s official Facebook (@Raffles.University.Iskandar) on 7 April 2021. The topic of the showcase was “Avant-Garde”.

Avant grade has become a symbol of progress, exploration and innovation. One of the main characteristics of avant-garde art is the understanding of art, the rules imposed on the appearance and production methods of artworks. An Avant-Garde fashion will be able to express the designer’s ideas and creativity compared to a ready-to-wear. It leads the mindset out of the established norms.

This time, each designer inspired by an art film express their feelings and ideas into a new creative design. From art to music, there is always an avant-garde movement in every creative field. Fashion is no exception. Fashion will be able to express someone’s feeling but not only through word or picture.

The Fashion Designers who presented in the Online Fashion Showcase were

  1. Angeline LEONG Siow Ling – “1 N ONLY”
  2. AU Jie Min – “Corrode”
  3. VOON Hui Joon – “Love & Cruel”
  4. Winnie SHANG – “Art of Justice”
  5. Jace YEO Ke Rou – “Drowned in Fear”
  6. Nicole SOO Ying Ying – “Eyes of Guilty”

The fashion designers created a set of fashion collections that were inspired by an art piece or an artistic film.  Then, they presented 1 outfit in the online showcase. They lead the audience to experience their flow of production, from ideation, inspiration, experiment, illustration and final product.   Besides the outfit, the designers also designed a facial mask as part of the fashion collection.

The module was guided by Ms Jennifer KONG ( the Programme Director of Fashion Design) and Ms Jane TEOH ( the Lecturer of Fashion Design).

It is worth pointing out that the fashion designers completed the production of the fashion collection, fashion production, fashion shooting and fashion showcase during the Movement Control Order (MCO) and Controlled Movement Control Order (CMCO). They were restricted with the distance of travelling ( 10km of restriction was applied during MCO). Yet, they did a great job on the garment production.
