RUID DICE SPECIAL LECTURE
DICE SPECIAL LECTURE BY MR KARRI FLINKMAN
Mr Karri FLINKMAN was invited by Mr Syukri from #RUID (Raffles University Interior Design) to be speaker of the Design Intention in Creative Environment (DICE) Special Lecture. Mr Karri is a Doctorate Researcher (on Population Density) in the University of Tokyo, and the topic of this special lecture was “Connection and Use of Theme/Rhythm in Classical Art and Architecture.”
In his lecture, he shows the hierarchy of elements in classical art, and how these can be used to guide architectural visuals as well.
“Rhythm” (or “Gesture”) is the simplified flow of energy that grabs your attention and tells a story.
Further, “Theme is something that ties the whole together, and guides both the designer and users.” In architecture, the visible lines and shapes come together to form the rhythm, which then forms the theme/concept, and vice versa.
