Raffles University is proud to announce the achievement of\u00a0Priya Darsheny A\/P Satishkumar [Bachelor of Accountancy (Honours)]<\/strong>\u00a0on the\u00a0ASEAN Youth Volunteer Program<\/strong><\/p>

Priya participated in the\u00a0ASEAN Youth Volunteer Program<\/strong>\u00a0for three weeks, organised by the University Kebangsaan Malaysia and the University of Philippines. This year, the program was themed on\u00a0\u2018Strengthening ASEAN Education Delivery Systems In Challenging Times\u2019<\/strong>, volunteers from 10 ASEAN countries participated. 2000 participants applied, but only 230 volunteers were chosen to participate in this programme.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The only selected volunteer from Malaysia to give a talk on \u2018Education Resilience in Malaysia\u2019<\/strong><\/p>

Priya was the only volunteer chosen from the 73 Malaysian volunteers to be a panel member to give a talk on \u2018Education Resilience in Malaysia\u2019 alongside other volunteers from the Philippines and Indonesia.<\/p>

The \u2018Education in Resilience in Malaysia\u2019 is a forum arranged by the organisers of ASEAN Youth Volunteering Program (AYVP), where the best three engaging volunteers will be chosen to share their experience on how they have overcome the difficulties in gaining education in their respective countries.<\/p>

\u201cI have shared with my fellow volunteers on how my education system was pre-pandemic and how the pandemic has changed it and also what are the necessary actions I have taken to gain my education during the tough times. For example, I have shared with them my online learning experience and how I got my lecturers and friends to guide me on it. Besides that, I also shared stories on other famous Malaysian students like Veveonah Mosibin and Umar Al \u2013 Khattab to inspire my fellow ASEAN volunteers. I gave a 10-minute talk with a slide presentation and followed by a 15-minute Q&A session.\u201d<\/p>

The main objective of Priya\u2019s talk is to inspire her fellow volunteers to overcome the challenges when studying this pandemic.<\/p>

\u201cI have shared with them my experiences and tips on tackling the challenges and on how to adapt to the online learning system.\u201d<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Priya\u2019s team proposal on \u2018A Journey of Empowering Neurodivergent Individuals\u2019 won Top 10 Best Projects.<\/strong><\/p>

Besides that, Priya worked with volunteers from other countries on a project proposal called \u2018A Journey of Empowering Neurodivergent Individuals\u2019, an online initiative that focuses on neurodivergent education. Their proposal was also selected as the Top 10 Best Projects from 23 projects, and the organisers would be providing them a USD500 grant to work on the project.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

What makes you take the initiative to participate in the volunteer programme?<\/strong><\/p>

\u201cThe ASEAN Youth Volunteering Program mainly honed my leadership skill. This community leadership program encourages me to work with my and other communities by sharing my innovative ideas to the social, cultural, economic, and environmental challenges while establishing a sense of ASEAN identity. Besides that, this 3-week program featured ASEAN focused online webinars, project management workshops and 22 masterclasses conducted by well-known people from different countries. Hence, I wanted to gain exposure and more knowledge from all the activities conducted. Apart from that, I have always wanted to create a difference in my country by helping the needy, and my current project that is funded by AYVP would be my first initiative towards my goal.\u201d<\/p>

What is the key takeaway message you have learned in the event?<\/strong><\/p>

\u201cAt the end of this program, I managed to understand how gaining education itself is a challenge for people in most countries, and I am always grateful to be in Malaysia where education is easily accessible by all. Besides that, I interacted with volunteers from other countries, where they taught me how to view problems from different perspectives and alternate ways to solve them. Through the masterclasses, I got exposed more to the current affairs of our neighbouring countries, and it made me a more responsible person now, and I believe that it also made me more diplomatic on handling issues. Last but not least, this program has also boosted my confidence to initiate my current project, \u2018A Journey of Empowering Neurodivergent Individuals\u2019. \u201c<\/p>

\u201cI would genuinely encourage all the youths to participate in this program as it genuinely gives an immense impact on you and changes your perspectives on the education system. Besides that, I was qualified for a certificate of participation and a certificate of excellence as my proposal was chosen as the Top 10 Best Project Proposals. On top of that, we will also be awarded a start-up grant of USD500, online mentoring and support from the Ministry of Youth to realise our project proposal. This would be a great program to enrol in if someone is looking to improve their leadership quality and change our community. \u201c<\/p>
